Kill off my demons and my angels might die, too.

I watched an incredible movie last night called Transsiberian, featuring Ben Kingsley, Woody Harrelson and Emily Mortimer about a train that goes from Beijing, China to Moscow, Russia, and the happenings that go on between the two main characters and some Russian mobsters.  The movie, which I knew absolutely nothing about prior to watching it, completely blew my mind.  I won't give anything away, but heres the trailer so you can see for yourself:

Is this an actual quote? Who originally wrote it or spoke it? I also watched the movie last night and now am searching for the source of the quote.

This is what I found:
"If I got rid of my demons, I'd lose my angels" is the original quote. It's in a book called "Conversations with Tennessee Williams".

G'day

I just watched this film tonight and it was awesome. Such a beautifully shot film. It's such a shame that movies like these rarely reach people. I think the movie wouldn't have been as good if it was popular... the best ones are those which we stumble upon. If you haven't seen it yet, I suggest "Into the wild"

Cheers.

Into the wild is one of my all-time favorites... Dunno why, just is...
Strongly recommend it to anyone who haven't seen it..
Searched for the quote, cause wanted to get a tattoo of Tennessee Williams quote... Though now it seems like I'm biting Transsiberian.. so I'm wondering whether or not to go for it... Opinions?

hahaha i watched that movie recently too, and googled that quote as well.. Great movie, and glad you liked it. I didn't know anything about it before, either. It was a nice surprise.

Loved Trassiberian. It had everything a good move should (love, betrayal, mystery, lust, murder, and a satisfying/rewarding ending). I've been telling everyone to watch it. And it is so true that the best movies are usually the ones you find by chance. As far as the quote goes, I think it is great how many thoughts can come out of so few words. It is really one to live by.

i heard that quote in that movie the other night. i have been thinking about it nonstop. Crazy the effect so few words can have. i think all of us have tried to kill off someone we love's demons, only to have it hurt the person we love instead.

the key is acceptance. total acceptance. unconditional love.

I loved it very much!

I can only agree: an awesome film and a qoute that captured me and my thoughts...for me it not only about killing someone you love's demons, but also to be a bit more patient and loving to yourself and your weaknesses.

Spot on. I have just paused it to search out the "kill all my demons" quote. Great minds think alike. Back to the movie...CU laters.

Funny stuff - I've just seen the movie too :-) This seems to be the place to go after watching and wanting to find the quote. I Searched "Tennesee Williams Angels Demons".

Anyway, it was close to the Tom Waits line, "If I excorcised my deamons, well my angels may leave too", but I guess good old Tom was inspired when writing ;-)

Greetings, Anders, Denmark

who actually first states this quote? when she is walking around the train station she says who the original mastermind of this quote is. anyone remember who?

Yes, it's originally quoted by Tennessee Williams - the American poet, playwright and writer. If you read the previous comments, someone has listed where the original quote can be found.

Great movie, watched it last night!

What about the line about seeing the doughnut and not the hole? Love the part later where Woody Harrelson admits that he didn't really know what it meant, just something about thinking positive. Also loved Kingsley reference to the Russian proverb, "With lies, you may go ahead in the world, but you may never go back." Great movie and Brad Anderson is an under-appreciated filmmaker.

Good film. Another underrated one is Dear Frankie, Emily Mortimer and Gerald Butler, about a young deaf boy growing up in a Scottish seaside town. Warm, touching and funny with superb scenery.
Loads of famous quotes have been changed over the years into a slicker form from the original version. I've heard "I was born with nothing and I've held on to most of it". Seasick Steve. (that's not the original version) Jimmy Cagney never said "you dirty Rat!" in any film. Don't think " Quite frankly Scarlett, I don't give a damn." is correct either and British government sex scandal Mandy Rice Davis is often mis-quoted as "Well, he would say that,
wouldn't he?" to the judge.
There must be hundreds that have been altered slightly to be more memorable and last down the years.
